Introduction to this blog - Who Do You Worship?
One of the most important questions that we have as Christians today is, Who Do You Worship? Now this may seem like an odd question with an obvious answer, but in reality there are varying views of who God really is. The most prominent today is the view of God as a three in one God, the triune God, God in three persons, or simply the Godhead. All of these views can be summarized as the Trinity. The belief that God is made up of three co-equal beings, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In this blog I will unmask the deception that is the doctrine of the Trinity and show the One True God as revealed in the Bible.
In the last days the final controversy will be over who we worship. In Revelation 14:6-12 we find the last message of hope that is to go to the world from God. Verse 7 says "Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters." In this verse the message is to "Fear God, and give glory to him;", but in order for us to fear God, which simply means to honor, reverence, obey, and worship, we first must know who that God is. The rest of the verse identifies God as the One who created all things. The Creator God. The God of the Ten Commandments.
Genesis 1:1, 2 says
- Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
- Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
For the Trinitarian, this verse along with John 1:1-3 which says
- Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
- Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Shows three beings at work at the creation of the world. We know from John 1:1-3 and other texts that the Father created all things through His Son. The Trinitarian view is that the Spirit of God is the Holy Spirit, a being that is separate from the Father and the Son. However, you will find that the Spirit of God is not another being, but the omnipresence of the Father Himself.
In presenting the Ten Commandments to the children of Israel, God identified who He is to them. In the first commandment found in Genesis 20:2, 3, He says
- Exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
- Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Very clearly He says in verse 2 that He is the LORD. The word LORD in all caps was a substitution of the name Yahweh. The Jews felt that the name Yahweh was so sacred that they did not even want to write it so they substituted it for LORD. The use of LORD pointed to only one being and that is Yahweh who is the Father. He further identifies Himself as the One who had brought them out of the house of bondage in Egypt, and He says "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." The children of Israel were coming out of four hundred years of bondage in a heathen nation where multiple gods were worshiped. This first commandment forbade worshiping anyone other than the One True God. The Trinity tries to mask the worship of three gods by claiming that all three are part of the One God, but the first commandment of the ten shows that there is only one true God and that is the Father.
Another verse in the Bible that declares this is found in John 17:3 which says,
- Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Clearly Jesus the Son of God, knows the Father more than anyone else, declares that the Father is the only true God.
This is just an introduction to the topic of Who is the God that you worship. I invite you to post comments and ask questions so that we all can understand better who God is and how we can worship Him in the way that is proscribed in His Word.
God bless,
